These operations will function as mini analyses through the lenses of remix, remediation, and assemblage. To ensure consistency of analysis, each operation will focus on the same three aspects of Terminator the Second, serving as some semblance of a control in the research design. Seeing how each lens explains these aspects, we can understand what each concept offers us and potentially uncover any limitations to help define the boundaries of each term. In order to encompass as much of the play as possible, this analysis focuses on three of Aristotle’s elements of drama: the play’s script, the overarching plot, and the visual elements of spectacle. “Script” will focus on just that, looking at the words as they were pulled together for the play. “Plot” will examine the overarching story that is instantiated by the characters. “Spectacle” encompasses the visual elements of a stage production: sets, costumes, props, special effects, etc. Given the nature of theater it is impossible to fully separate these things as they all overlap and happen concurrently: the plot is instantiated by the script and acted out by the characters, and characters themselves are visual elements not included in spectacle—but their costumes are. However, these divisions allow us to consider the elements in isolation to see how remix, remediation, and assemblage function in each.
